Why Grant Kindness?

When Grant’s First Birthday came around, a new wave of grief hit. If God’s plans had been different, what would Grant have been interested in as a one year old? What theme would we have celebrated with at his first birthday party? What gift would we have been purchasing to give our big boy? We quickly decided we wanted to turn that sadness into joy. Let’s find another baby boy turning one and give him a fun first birthday gift!

Each year, on August 18th, it’s been a blessing to our family to find a boy around the same age as Grant would have been, and grant him kindness in a special way.

From their first pair of Mickey ears, to a Disney pass, to school supplies, to a new bike, it’s all been exactly what that boy needed. All while sharing the love of our Heavenly Father and  the ultimate gift He gave us in sending His son to redeem us of our sins and give us eternal, perfect life. Our "grant kindness" acts don’t save, but we pray it shines in a way for others to know Jesus, so HE can save.

Of course, we weren’t alone in the pain of not having Grant here on his birthday. We decided to invite everyone to celebrate Grant with us! We made a little flier that friends could give when they chose to Grant Kindness to someone else on his birthday. Countless stories have been told from drive-through orders paid, baby baskets delivered to hospitals, cookies to an elderly home, a goat for a family in Africa, and so much more.

Every year, we love helping children and hearing friends, family and even strangers continue to remember Grant’s story and pass on Grant Kindness acts.

Wouldn’t it be amazing to give people the opportunity to give and see their gift be given in a way Grant’s story is told to point them to Jesus?
